The Red Letter Society, producers of 2016's The Abortion Chronicles, are seeking submissions for our 2017 Minnesota Fringe production, Control Group, a new work illuminating abusive control tactics.
In church, at home, at work, at play, there are millions of people in this country who are victims of mental abuse, coercive control, and brainwashing, and most do not realize there is anything out of the ordinary about their situations.
We are looking to explore all the angles on the subject of control- so we can provide a voice to survivors, and important tools for others to recognize the signs for themselves. To that end, we are seeking personal stories from everyday people who have either been part of a coercive control domestic situation, grooming, cult orientation, financial scam, or have had a loved one become a victim. All perspectives on this complicated issue are welcome regardless of age, race, cultural perspective, or stance on the subject (within reason, and with respect).
If you would like to share a story, but do not wish to tell the story in performance yourself, we can provide actors/storytellers who will be willing to tell the story in your stead.
We are willing to consider submissions in any form, be they fully written stories, short statements or proposals. We are looking to have as many different stories fit into the hour-long Fringe performance time frame as possible, so while we will be carefully considering all submissions, not all will make it into the production. Rest assured, any story shared will remain private with us within the RLS, and any story used will remain anonymous, if you request us to do so. However, we will need all whose stories are ultimately included in the show to be part of at least some of the rehearsal process, in order to be involved in the inevitable editing process for your piece as the show develops. We want to make this project a safe space in which we can address this topic with empathy and care, while not shying away from the tough issues involved.
Please feel free to contact us with any questions; all inquiries and submissions should be directed to: [email protected]
**Submissions are due by April 30, 2017.**
